As Luke would put it, I'm officially old balls now. Made it to a quater century. It's a good thing I only turn 25 once because I don't think I'd survive it again. Friday's party in Nanton was legend...wait for it Katie...dary! Too bad I only lasted half of it. A word to the not-so-wise...do not do a keg stand at the begging of your party that is as long in seconds as your life is in years. I'm pretty sure that 25 second beer chug was my downfall. Or was the jagrmeister...or the tequila...you never really know. The one advantage to mixing it up so much as that I can't really blame my hangover on any one type of alcohol so I'd feel fine drinking any of them again.
So the party was awesome. The pool was warm, ping pong in the basement, Rock Band on the TV, keg outside, and lots of pizza. Saturday wasn't quite as enjoyable but I had a pretty hot personal nurse to bring me back to health. Katie was with me for most of the night and all of Saturday. The shaking died down enough in the afternoon to let her drive me back to Calgary. Babe, thanks...and don't worry, you won't be needing to do it again.
So, another funny story from the past week. Last Monday I was in Edmonton taking a quick break from the field (I was out on the rigs from Feb 25-Mar6). Needed to work off some energy at the gym so went over to the U of A and ran into my youngest bro, Pete, on the way in. He came with me and we lifted weights for a while before he challenged me to a race on the rowing machines. It was a sprint to 1000m. We had actually decided to do 2000m but mutually agreed at 1000m to stop without anything needing to be said. I managed to beat him by 30m (3 pulles of the handle). Alright...the old guy still has it. Pete got up right away to walk it off and cool down but I needed a bit more time on the seat. That was it for both of us so we started making our way back to the change room. I started to notice the lights in the hallway getting really bright and actually started stumbling once we got into the change room. Pete though I was just being a jerk trying to run into him until he realized my eyes were rolling into the back of my head. I made it about 5 feet from the toilets (thinking I might throw up) before I collapsed on the floor. Might have hit myself pretty hard if Pete wasn't there to lower me down. I felt better immediately after being horizontal on the nice, cool cement floor. Took me about 15 minutes (and a cold shower) before I could make the walk back to grandma's place.
So...I'm not sure who the real winner was there but I DID beat him to 1000m! Hmmm, I needed Katie to nurse me back that night too. I'm starting to see a trend. Could it be I'm intentionally wrecking myself to have her dote on me?
In other news, the weather is really picking up. Got my bike tuned up and outfitted with some new gadgets I got for my birthday. It's now officially street legal. Going to get out for a few rides this week as I plan on riding to work soon. I'll also do a bunch out in the field by Grande Cache this summer.
Thanks to everyone that made it down to the party.
