My parents have always been under the impression that I was born under a lucky star. Things just seem to work out in my life. I get lucky breaks here and there. Last night my luck struck again. Andrea and I had been talking about going out sailing for a while and last night we finally made it out on the lake. It had been the most perfect sailing weather all day and we still had some good sun and wind around 6:00 when we got the boat in the water. She's been sailing her whole life and she races in regattas most weekends. So I learned a lot. At then end she said "wow, I didn't have to show you as much as I thought I would" or something like that. I took it as a compliment. But we sailed east along the shore, past downtown and the mouth of the river until we were in front of RMC. Another few kilometers is the first of the 1000 islands. That is why this is the best fresh water sailing in the world. The islands are beautiful. Sometime I'm going to take a few people and head down that way. We tacked in front of RMC and went on a broad reach most of the way home (see, I learned something). Just as we were getting into the gate of the Marina the wind died...completely. We tried to keep going on the little breaths of wind that came every once and a while but we were stuck floating about 100 feet from the ramp. I was thinking I'd have to volunteer to get in and kick but Andrea showed me what a great sailor she is. She stood up, rudder pole in one hand the main sheet in the other and started rocking the boat back and forth. We were in a laser, and I was impressed that she could stand up and not fall off, but I guess she's done this before. Something about the shape of the boat makes it propel itself forward when you rock it. So after a minute of rocking we were in. I think it was my luck that made us turn back when we did. We could have easily been out in the lake somewhere when the wind died. Instead we just made it in. Thank you so much for the chance to get out there Andrea, it made my week.

After that I was pretty much toast. No one was home, so I made myself a few sandwiches, fell asleep in front of the TV, and was in bed and out before midnight. Still slept in this morning though. Tonight we're going to this Chinese place for supper and then to a house party later tonight. Tomorrow morning...early...we're Toronto bound!
